SciELO Spain is a virtual library comprising a collection of Spanish scientific journals in the health sciences, selected according to previously established quality criteria. The SciELO Project is the result of cooperation between BIREME (the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information) and FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). In Spain, the project is developed by the National Library of Health Sciences through a collaboration agreement between the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Carlos III Health Institute. The main objective of the project is to contribute to the development of research by increasing the visibility and dissemination of national scientific output, as well as by improving and expanding the tools available for the publication and evaluation of research results.
The Latindex Catalogue includes journals that meet quality standards in accordance with the Latindex methodology. The first version of the Catalogue was launched in 2002 and was replaced in 2018 by Version 2.0, which incorporates 38 criteria applicable exclusively to online journals. Journals included in the Catalogue are accompanied by a brief description of their nature and scope, as well as an image of their cover. The Catalogue is not, strictly speaking, an evaluation tool; rather, it is a specialized reference service that provides information on the quality characteristics of each journal.
